Using Insurance

If you want to use insurance, you have three options: 

  1. You can pay cash or check for your session, and I will give you a bill/receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

     

  2. You can call the customer service number on the back of your card. Ask for the insurance carrier for the Mental Health or Behavioral Health Coverage, which is often different from the carrier for the medical insurance, and may have an entirely different deductible and co-pay schedule. Call the behavioral health carrier, and find out the following information:

    1. Do you need an authorization? You can say you are feeling anxious, stressed, or down. Be sure to get an authorization number if you need one, and bring that to your first session.

    2.  Do you have a deductible to pay for this year? If so, how much of it remains to be paid? Pay cash or check upfront for the sessions required to fulfill the deductible.

    3. Find out how much your copay is. You can pay by check or cash at the beginning of each session.

    4. What is the address where behavioral health claims are to be sent?  I will send the bill in for you.

  3. You can pay full fee by cash or check the first 3-5 sessions, while you are obtaining the information listed above. When you have all the information, I will credit you the money that you have already paid, applied toward future copays, according to the payment I receive from your insurance company. However, if a session is not paid according to your full benefit because you have not obtained authorization, you will receive less credit toward future copays. You are responsible for payment for any fees not covered by your insurance company.
